Raised by his Great aunt In Fort Worth, Texas Kirk Franklin was able to excel at music. Learning to play the piano at a young age he was able to read and write music by ear. At the age of 20 Milton Biggham enlisted Franklin lead the DFW Mass Choir in a recording of Franklin’s song “Every Day with Jesus” then eventually he would lead the choir at the 1990 Gospel Music Workshop of America.
Kirk Franklin has introduced traditional gospel to an unconventional audience with the release of his album Kirk Franklin and The Family. He has reached thousands of listeners and had broadened the range of people who listen to gospel. Lean on me is one of his most popular song to date. featuring a number of popular artist from different genres the song was an instant hit. The album “Kirk Franklin and the Family” was the first Gospel album to sell over a million records.
