Baltimore city school officials are investigating allegations of bullying at an elementary school after officials say one girl threatened to commit suicide.

According to the victim’s mother, 8-year-old Shaniya Boyd tried to jump out of a window at Gilmor Elementary School last week. Shaniya, who has cerebral palsy, then told her mother that she “wanted to get away” after she was teased, knocked off of her crutches and kicked repeatedly in the head.

Jonathan Brice, executive director of student support for city schools, says Shaniya was not at a window, but she was taken to the nurse’s office after she said she wanted to commit suicide.

Brice says one of three students suspended since the incident allegedly attacked Shaniya, but school officials won’t disclose the circumstances surrounding the other suspensions.
