MUSIC VETERAN AND INDIE LABEL

CELEBRATE THEIR FIRST BILLBOARD #1 SMASH

“I Want To Say Thank You” Nudges Marvin Sapp Out of Top Spot

Baltimore, MD: Habakkuk Music and its flagship artist, Lisa Page Brooks, are celebrating the dark house success of Page Brooks’ radio smash, “I Want To Say Thank You,” for reaching #1 on next week’s Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart. The track hails from Page Brook’s CD, “Strong,” that was released in autumn 2009.

“I Want To Say Thank You” was recorded several years ago but just recently dusted off and reissued. Since then, the song has been on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart for 32 weeks and for the last six weeks, it’s been #2 on the chart right behind Marvin Sapp’s tune, “The Best In Me, “ that has spent 25 weeks in the number one spot. “Our eye was on the #1 slot, but Marvin Sapp’s single wasn’t budging,” says Habakkuk Music CEO, April Washington-Essex. “However, when Jeff Grant (Verity Records, Sr. VP and Marvin Sapp’s radio promoter) called at 7:30 a.m. this morning to offer his congratulations, I knew this was real!”

This is one the biggest achievements of Lisa Page Brooks’ 25-year career in the music industry. She first gained notice as the leader of the Detroit-based female gospel group, Witness, before going solo in 1997. With three solo CDs to her credit, Page Brooks is proud of the song’s endurance and the way that it’s connected with the gospel audience. “It’s nice to know we are experiencing commercial success,” she says. “But it’s even greater to know that lives are being impacted by this simple song written by my husband, Pastor Michael Brooks (formerly of the legendary gospel group, Commissioned).”

Not only is this a historic moment for Page Brook’s career but it’s also a milestone for Baltimore, MD-based, Habakkuk Music, Inc., which was launched three years ago amid economic and industry challenges. This is the independently-owned label’s first #1 hit. “Achieving this #1 position is proof that with hard work, faith and a great team, all things are possible,” Washington-Essex adds. Universal Music Group/Fontana Distribution distributes Habakkuk Music in the United States and digitally worldwide.
