GoalDIGGERS: The Sankofa Project, which will encourage African-American girls, ages 13-18, to study their ancestry and heritage, including through the use of DNA. Girls will also participate in journaling and relevant cultural exchanges to learn about indigenous communal mores, bolster their identity and self-esteem and become more engaged citizens.

Foreman Shields has established GoalDIGGERS: The Sankofa Project, which will encourage African-American girls, ages 13-18, to study their ancestry and heritage using technology, anthropology, and DNA testing. Girls will also participate in journaling and relevant cultural exchanges to learn about indigenous communal mores, bolster their identity and self-esteem and become more civically engaged citizens.

Overview of Presentation of GoalDIGGERS: The Sankofa Project

Provide an interactive gender specific assemblies for 9th and 10th grade female students and 11th and 12th accordingly. Giving a short entertainment driven 5 minutes introduction to the MESHELLE “Indie-Mom of Comedy” Brand.

2) *Share Open Society Institute Program; GoalDIGGERS:The Sankofa Project in a Video/Power Point Presentation (6 mins). GoalDIGGERS: The Sankofa Project will introduce 15 African American girls ages 14-18 to the study of their ancestry, heritage and lineage utilizing Anthropology (Ethnographic Research), online technology (www.ancestry.com ) and DNA testing with a Culminating trip to Ghana, West Africa. Throughout this process we will journal, travel to relevant cultural locales, lectures and performances throughout the North East Region.

3) *This program will be filmed as a full length feature documentary with support from The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control among others.

4 *Lastly the GoalDIGGERS will travel to Ghana, West Africa and visit the Elmina Slave Castles, University of Accra, Home and Shrine of W.E.B Dubois, visit the Palace of Queen Yaa Asantewaa , Matriarch of Kumasi, Ghana (the original Capital) participate in a service learning project and a number of other specialized events and curricula driven activities.
