The always too-opinionated media mogul Rupert Murdoch (pictured), owner of the New York Post newspaper that reported earlier this week the incident involving the woman who fell through a New York City sidewalk while waiting for a bus, has now put his foot in his mouth once again.  The Australian magnate tweeted some disparaging assumptions about the plus-sized victim being on welfare and food stamps that has many up-in-arms, reports Yahoo! News.

Known as a mouth almighty of sorts for always getting under people’s skin with his incendiary comments and opinions, Murdoch stayed true to form when he tweeted on Tuesday:

 Rupert Murdoch Verified@rupertmurdoch

How did fat lady who fell thru street get to 400 lbs? Welfare, stamps, etc? Then leave us all with 20yrs immense health bills.

Murdoch made the callous comment about the 32-year-old woman, after his own newspaper published an article stating that if the victim was thinner, she probably would have died after the fall.

Instead of apologizing to Williams and to many of his Twitter followers who were upset by his unsympathetic tweet, the 81-year-old took to Twitterverse a little while later and tweeted:

Rupert Murdoch @rupertmurdochDid not mean to be unsympathetic to 400 lb lady, but fact remains unhealthy eating by rich and poor driving up premiums for all.

Ulanda Williams, the 6’5,” 400-pound woman who plunged six-feet right through a slab of concrete as she tried to take shelter from the rain while waiting for a bus, had only been standing on the sidewalk about 10 seconds when it gave way.  Williams, who was originally reported as being closer to 300 pounds, fell in to a cellar.

Luckily for Williams, her size saved her from sustaining even more serious injuries.  After being fished out of the sidewalk sinkhole by a crane and cargo net, Williams wound up with a few scrapes, bruises, and a broken arm.

Inspectors with the Department of Buildings later determined that defective steel doors and a loose staircase were partially responsible for the sidewalk collapse.
