God never promised that things would be easy or that things wouldn’t happen to cause your heart to break. I’m not sure that I know any person that doesn’t turn on the nightly news and find at least one story that doesn’t break their heart or cause them have some type of sadness. I actually made it a practice when my children were smaller to not even watch the news or have it on so that I nor my children would get pulled down too low. Even the hurts that we as believers deal with personally on a daily basis – job hurt, church hurt, family hurt, friend hurt, race hurt…just hurt.

But God promised in his word to heal our hearts, and bid up our wounds. So that tells you right there that hurt will come, wounds will come, and God’s promises are yes and amen. So know that God is your strength. He is your help. And he is the mender of your broken heart.

Psalm 147:3 (KJV) – He healeth the broken heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

Psalms 73:26 (KJV) – My flesh and my heart faileth: [but] God [is] the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
