YOUR LIFE: Absolving others of guilt is difficult but necessary for the believer. Who has intentionally hurt you and you have not forgiven them? Rather than trying to get even, show them the love of Christ this week and seek to restore fellowship with them.
CLOSING THOUGHT: Joseph was in an ideal position to repay his brothers for the wrongs they had committed against him. Yet, he used his power to awaken their consciences so that they could deal with the guilt and shame they had endured up to their face-to-face encounter with him. How could he avoid deliberate vindictiveness? It was due to his relationship with God and understanding God’s purpose for his life. Joseph chose to leave vengeance to God. Leaving vengeance to God requires that we realize that He has forgiven us through Christ’s substitutionary death despite our sins. Since He has forgiven us, His expectation is that we forgive others and demonstrate selfless love toward them.
CLOSING PRAYER: Dear GOD, thank you for providing the means of removing the guilt and shame of our past through the substitutionary death of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Help us forgive those who have wronged us, just as you have forgiven us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
