A City Council committee voted unanimously on a bill that will alter pension plans for the city’s firefighters and police. The current proposal estimates that the mayor’s plan would save $400 million over five years under the plan.

City Hall was crowded on Thursday with retired and current firefighters and police protesting the proposed changes. The new plan includes raising the retirement age, increase employee contributions and lower cost-of-living wages.

The city claims it cannot afford to pay the $64 million currently owed to the pension fund. I’m sure this will not be the end to this fight.
