The “Insecure” star migrated to the United States from Nigeria when she was six-years-old.
2. Lupita Nyong’o
Born in Mexico and raised in Kenya, Nyong’o moved to the states to attend Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts.
3. Nicki Minaj
Minaj moved from Trinidad to New York with her family when she was five.
4. Iman
The iconic model immigrated from Kenya to the United States before she turned 18.
5. Danai Gurira
Gurira was born in the Iowa, but her parents migrated from Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) to the U.S. in 1964. In 1983, when Gurira was five, her family moved back to their homeland. Gurira returned to the U.S. when she attended Mcalester College, in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
6. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
The prolific author immigrated to the United States from Nigeria to attend college at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
7. Heather Headley
The singer and actress relocated to the United States from Trinidad when she was 15.
8. Garcelle Beauvais
At the age of 7, Beauvais immigrated to America from Haiti with her mother and siblings.
