October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month: Author Sapphire speaks on her book Push and how domestic violence, as portrayed in the book is relevant now in the Black Community.

Basheer Jones and the Cleveland Public Library (CPL) welcome Sapphire to Cleveland this passed weekend. Jones and CPL was honored to host Sapphire, a performance poet and writer whose novel, Push, was made into the award-winning film, “Precious,” on Sunday, October 10th as part of the Writers & Readers author series.

Sapphire addresses the criticisms of her book and domestic violence in the black community, during October- Domestic Violence Awareness Month. She also tells of her inspiration behind this fiction novel, which expresses the lives of many women to this day dealing with domestic violence and child abuse in their past.
