A Baltimore high school student has been charged with attempted murder after a brutal altercation with a classmate was caught on cell phone video on Wednesday.

Sean Johnson, a 17-year-old student at Frederick Douglass High School, can be seen in the footage punching his football teammate Darrien McDowell on the floor of the cafeteria. Before he walked away from the fight, Johnson stepped on McDowell’s head while he was suffering a seizure in a pool of his own blood.

WJZ Eyewitness News has not released that portion of the video, because it has been deemed too brutal to watch, CBS Baltimore reports.

According to the charging documents obtained by WJZ, the fight started when Johnson asked McDowell if he had taken the visor off his football helmet. The site spoke with Johnson’s mother:

“There are two sides to every story. My son is being portrayed as someone worse than he really is,” she said.

McDowell has been released from the hospital, but suffered a concussion, as well as nose and facial fractures.

School officials have canceled all after-school activities for the rest of the week to restore the mood and ensure safety. Despite an attempt by WJZ, Johnson and McDowell’s football coaches declined to comment on the altercation.

Johnson is being held without bond and will be tried as an adult.
