Baltimore officially launched its 5th Annual Safe Streets Summer Program on Saturday with a community celebration at the basketball courts in Druid Hill Park.

Mayor Brandon Scott was joined by Stefanie Mavronis, director of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE), along with representatives from Catholic Charities and LifeBridge Health’s Center for Hope, to tip off the summer initiative aimed at promoting peace and public safety across the city.

“This summer, our slogan is ‘Healing Our Streets, Piece by Peace,’ emphasizing Safe Summer’s mission of bringing our communities together to promote peace and unity,” Mayor Scott said.

The Safe Streets Summer Program features a series of events and activities designed to connect residents with resources, support youth engagement, and foster safer neighborhoods throughout the warmer months.

“I am so excited to be announcing the fifth consecutive year of Safe Summer,” Scott said. “We know how important it is to provide crucial resources and engagement activities to keep our communities safe throughout the summer months.”

The kickoff event blended celebration with purpose, using basketball and community gathering as a unifying platform.

Back in April, during his State of the City address, Mayor Scott noted that crime in Baltimore has decreased by 40% since 2020 — a stat he credits in part to programs like Safe Streets and broader community-based violence prevention efforts.

The Safe Streets Summer Program continues to be a cornerstone of the city’s public safety strategy, aiming to build trust, reduce violence, and offer alternatives to crime through proactive engagement.
