Maryland Vehicle Registration Fees to Increase July 1, 2025
Maryland Vehicle Registration Fees to Increase Starting July 1, 2025

Maryland motorists can expect to pay more to renew their vehicle registrations starting Tuesday, July 1, as a new round of fee increases takes effect.
The upcoming hike follows a steeper adjustment last July, which raised some renewal costs by nearly 80%. While this year’s increase is less dramatic, drivers will still notice higher prices across several vehicle categories.
For Class A passenger vehicles:
- Cars under 3,500 pounds will see a $10 increase in one-year registration costs.
- Vehicles weighing more than 3,700 pounds will pay $191.50, a $30 jump from current rates.
- Vehicles between those weight classes will see a smaller $5 increase.
Motorcycle registrations will also rise by $10.
In addition to registration hikes, the cost of obtaining a certificate of title will double, going from $100 to $200. The excise tax on most vehicle purchases will increase from 6% to 6.5% of the vehicle’s fair market value.
These changes are part of Maryland’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget. A full breakdown of the updated fees is available on the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) website.
