Baltimore City Council members said Wednesday that they have come up with an alternative to the four-cnet tax on bottled beverages. The idea was originally proposed to lessen the city’s budget gap and was never received positively.

The Council members intend to swap taxes on billboards, oversized trucks and video poker machines for a portion of the $11 million that the bottle tax was expected to generate. This is great news to beverage distributors, grocers and other business groups that lobbied against the proposal.
