Writer, dancer, Black activist and author Maya Angelou celebrated her 82nd birthday with family and close friends at her home in Winston-Salem, NC. Attendees included filmmaker Lee Daniels and “Just Wright” star Common. Angelou’s birthday was actually April 4.
Speakers and performers included Common, Martina McBride and Naomi Judd. Over 100 people were in attendance in her newly refurbished backyard garden. I was honored to be among the attendees.
The party was sponsored by Harpo Radio and Lowe’s, the North Carolina-based home improvement chain. Angelou’s next project is a cookbook, “Great Food All Day Long” scheduled to be released later this year.
