Shanesha Taylor (FOX 10)

Shanesha Taylor, the mother who received widespread support and attention after leaving her children in a hot car while she interviewed for a job in Scottsdale, Ariz., allegedly spent thousands of dollars in donated money “to finish her baby daddy’s rap album,” a former supporter claims, according to the New York Daily News.

Taylor received a wellspring of support and donations after her March arrest on two felony child abuse charges for leaving her two children in a hot car while she reportedly attended the interview. A New Jersey woman helped raise $114,000 for Taylor after her story and tearful mugshot went viral. And a judge even said she could avoid jail if she put $40,000 in donations into a trust fund for her children.

Now the New York Daily News reports:

Taylor, however, failed to put the money in the trust fund by the deadline imposed by the judge, throwing away the “deal of a lifetime,” said her attorney Benjamin Taylor.

Prosecutors charged that Taylor was spending more than $4,000 a month on non-essential items, and now a former supporter of hers says she even spent some dough on a rap album.

“We had someone call my office and alert her attorney to the fact that she spent $6,000 at a music studio in Tempe to finish her baby daddy’s rap album,” the Rev. Jarrett Maupin told ABC. “That’s not what people gave her that money for.”

Additionally, Maupin told FOX 10 that he believes Taylor has “turned into a diva who refuses to explain where the money is.”

FOX 10 reports:

“When it wasn’t spent to pay rent, it wasn’t spent to buy a new car, it wasn’t spent on the children’s trust, yet you’re applying for a public defender because you’re broke…all signs point to the money being gone,” says Maupin.

Fox notes that answers may come during Taylor’s trial for felony child abuse scheduled to begin Dec. 10. She has been assigned a public defender.
