Domestic violence cases in Maryland are on the rise, with new data showing a troubling increase in deaths linked to intimate partner violence, CBS Baltimore reports.
According to the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence, 47 people died in cases connected to domestic violence, up from 41 reported in 2024. Advocates say the numbers highlight an ongoing crisis affecting families across the state.
Nearly 37% of those incidents involved a suicide or attempted suicide, underscoring the complex and often escalating nature of these situations. Tania Araya, Director of Programming at TurnAround Inc., said the numbers remain alarmingly high.

Experts say warning signs can include isolation from friends and family, controlling behavior, and increased anxiety. Abusers often seek to gain and maintain power through manipulation and control, making it difficult for victims to leave.
Recent incidents across Maryland reflect those concerns. In Westminster, a couple was found dead in their home in what investigators believe may be a murder-suicide. In Nottingham, another suspected murder-suicide involving an older couple shocked neighbors.
Advocates say older adults can be particularly vulnerable, especially when isolated from support systems.
In a separate case, police in Pasadena arrested a man in connection to the death of 33-year-old Heather Beaver, whose death was later ruled a homicide.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available through the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.
